Best Bar Patios in South and East Austin

Let’s Talk Austin Drinks.

One of our favorite parts about Austin is the weather. Austinites are uniquely able to enjoy warm, sunny days for the majority of the year! What better way to cool off after a fun outdoor day than by sipping your favorite beverage? Back in the day when Austin was still “weird”, all the fun patio bars could only be found downtown or just south of the river. But since so many folks wanted to get a taste, our city’s growth has absolutely exploded. Now, it’s easy for patio lovers to find bars all over South and East Austin – and here are four of our favorites!

Moontower Saloon

For five years this dog-friendly bar in “Way South Awesome” Austin has been the place to go for anyone in South Austin. Its large patio has everything you could want to spend the day outdoors, but still be at a bar. Large oak trees shade the patio providing relief from the blazing sun during summer months and fire pits help warm patrons during the winter. Sand volleyball courts line the back of the bar, three food trailers serve food to soak up the alcohol and washer pits draw a steady supply of participants. At 11 acres, it is one of the biggest patio bars in all of Central Texas. The bar hosts family-friendly brunches on Sunday, trivia nights on Tuesdays, Jinga Tower Wednesdays, weekly volleyball tournaments and almost daily live music.

Little Darlin

The team that brought some of Austin’s iconic bars like Yellow Jacket, Emo’s and Black Star Co-Op opened this cute neighborhood bar in April 2016. The spacious outdoor patio feels more like a friend’s backyard than a bar. Find a bench swing to swing the afternoon away while sipping on a local brew or hang at a picnic table while chowing down on some locally-sourced southern flare food. If you’re feeling squirrely, challenge a stranger to a game of horseshoe or washers in the backyard pits. Dogs are welcome anytime, and children are welcomed until 9 p.m!

Radio Coffee and Beer

With a plethora of Stumptown coffee choices, pastries, local beers and Veracruz tacos, Radio Coffee and Beer is the perfect spot to relax day or night. Soak up the sun outdoors in the shaded outdoor patio or lounge on the grassy lawn. With live music playing almost every day, it is no wonder the Austin Chronicle names Radio Coffee and Beer the best local coffee shop almost every year since it opened.

Luster Pearl East

Luster Pearl, the original bar that transformed the Rainey Street district from a little-known downtown area full of dilapidated houses to one of Austin’s most popular entertainment districts, has moved east. In November 2015 owners transported the home built in 1895 from Rainey Street to its new location Linden Street, just east of Pleasant Valley Road. Despite the new location it is still known as the go-to destination for cheap beer, yummy sandwiches, tons of ping-pong tables and a huge back patio.
