Baby, You’re a Firework
At Easton Park, our Community Life Team is known for throwing epic parties, and our recent Easton Park Sparks & Sounds event was one for the ages. We hope this full-throttle fireworks show at Easton Park’s 21-acre Skyline Park will become an annual tradition.
Music, splashing, and more
While rainstorms postponed our original event date from Thursday, July 3, the party was just as fun on the rescheduled rain date of Saturday, August 9. “We had so much fun on Saturday,” said Easton Park resident Brittany Clay. “I know Sparks & Sounds was initially organized for July 4, but with the delay, it timed up perfectly with the end of summer break. The event fell on the Saturday before the start of the school year, so we got to enjoy face painting, a magic show, and fireworks with all of our neighborhood and school friends.”
Red, white, and you
Neighbors dressed in red, white, and blue and gathered at Skyline Park at around 6 pm, bringing blankets and chairs out on the event lawn. Live music from four-piece band Microbus ATX got the crowd dancing in front of the Skyline Pavillion with Freedom rock favorites from Bob Seger, Steve Miller Band, and more. The Skyline Park play areas and splash pad were in full effect, and lots of families (including our four-legged neighbors) played catch in the grassy areas in front of the Pavillion. “We had an absolute BLAST,” said Easton Park resident Tim Andrew. “We packed a picnic blanket, brought our puppy, got dinner from the food trucks and got to listen to some great live music and catch up with our neighbors! We cannot wait for the next EP event!”
Picnics & magic
Folks brought picnic dinners and fueled up with treats and eats from local vendors Barnaby’s Italian Ice, Downtown Burgers ATX, and LMNT Lemonade. Young and old residents alike enjoyed facepainting from Miss Jellybean and hilarious caricature portraits from our favorite local sketch artists. As the sun set around 8pm, magician extraordinaire Bobby Cordell wowed the crowd with some spectacular tricks. “My favorite part of the event was the caricature drawing,” Brittany said. “The artists were so fast, and our drawing is both precious and hilarious.”
A booming good time
Once the sky was dark, the stage was set for the evening’s big entertainment, a full fireworks show put on by the expert pyrotechnics team at Epic Entertainment. Ooohs and ahhs abounded as the sky lit up with red, white and rainbow bursts. After the show, neighbors were able to walk back home. “By the end of the night, we were all piled up on blankets, watching the fireworks, while a band played live music,” Brittany said. “It was perfect. I love the community of people Easton Park has helped us find.”
It was definitely a night we won’t forget anytime soon. Want to live in a community with great neighbors and fun events right in the neighborhood? Come explore the homes and find your slice of Austin in 78744.
