Meet the Smith-Magoons
In 2022, Daniel and Ryan Smith-Magoon were struggling to work from a small home while caring for their toddler son, Cooper. The couple needed more indoor space, plus outdoor space for Cooper and their two dogs, General Gunther and Rainer. When their Realtor brought them to see Easton Park, they knew it was just right for their growing family. We sat down with Daniel and Ryan to hear why they chose Easton Park and what they love about the community.
EP: Thanks for talking with us! Tell us about your home search. What were you looking for?
D&R: At that point, we were both trying to work from home after the pandemic, and we really needed two designated home offices and a big yard for the dogs and Cooper. With a toddler, we didn’t want stairs. We fell in love with a floor plan from Perry Homes in Kieke Park, and it all moved pretty quickly.
EP: When did y’all move in?
D&R: We moved in in April of 2022, and then in October, we got a call that changed our lives. Cooper’s birth mom had chosen us again, and Baby Callum was born and came home in the middle of February! So now it’s beautiful chaos at our house — Cooper turned 5 this July, and Callum turned 3 this year.

EP: So with two littles, I’m sure schools were important to you?
D&R: Absolutely! Cooper just finished his first year of Pre-K at Newton Collins right in the neighborhood, and it’s been a good experience. He’s in the dual language program. It’s fun to run into his friends from school in the neighborhood and at the parks. There’s a real sense of community. Some of the parents organized a meet-up before school started, and there are weekend meet-ups. Ryan is part of the EP mom’s group, and it’s a good resource for what’s going on with the school. They’ll tell you when it’s spirit day, and there are fundraising activities like a pickleball tournament.
EP: What’s your favorite park in Easton Park?
D&R: Probably Kieke Park, because it’s so close and it’s good for smaller kids. We’ll walk to it with our wagon, and we’ll often bring a board game to play in the shade while the kids play on the playground. Skyline Park is cool, but it’s more of an adventure. Cooper loves the big slide, and Callum tries to do it — it’s a more advanced playground.

EP: What do you tell people about Easton Park? What do you love about living here?
D&R: Any time friends or family come to visit, they’re always impressed with our home and the well-manicured parks and the pool. Another thing that’s impressed us is that Easton Park is massive, but we run into people from Easton all over the city! If you look at the map, Easton Park might look far, but it’s really connected and accessible to all things Austin. That’s one thing anyone should consider. It’s a 15 minute drive to anything, and the community gives you plenty to do without having to branch out! We love it.
Thanks Daniel and Ryan for taking the time to chat with us! If you want to be their neighbor in a community that’s rich with parks, schools, and good times, find your home in Easton Park today!
