Skyline Park is Open!

On Saturday, May 4th we celebrated the grand opening of Skyline Park with The Big Launch. Over 4,000 people from all over came to the festivities! The first people to arrive received complimentary commemorative Skyline Park bandanas and Easton Park tote bags. The park was already bustling with guests by noon, and the excitement continued with live music at the Skyline Pavilion from C.J. Sparks and DJ Cassandra, an epic water balloon toss competition with prizes, a braid and bling bar, face painting, stilt walkers, hula hooping, balloon animals, cotton candy, dog-friendly activities, and of course, the chance to try the 3-story tube slide with views of downtown Austin!

Play all day!

Residents and guests alike were excited to try out all of the park’s amenities, including the hillside slides, the zip line, the swings, and the two play areas. Splash Eddy splash pad was very popular with the smaller kids, and kids of all ages loved the stacked houses play structures.  Parents and kids alike took turns running across the Mini Penny bridge, a replica of Austin’s famous Pennybacker Bridge.

Hope you came hungry!

Local food trucks Ranch Hand and The Corn Dog Company provided some hearty eats for purchase, while Cold Ones Pops, Cornucopia Popcorn, and Fancy Fluff provided delicious treats. Our fellow Eastonites from Cenizo Coffee kept everyone’s caffeine levels up for an afternoon of excitement, and our Community Life team kept everyone refreshed with agua frescas.

Meet the Toss Bosses!

The Water Balloon Toss Competitions took place at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30, with the winners of each round taking home ultimate bragging rights and some pretty cool trophies! And…congrats to Ryan Smith-Magoon for bringing a friend and winning our Rock the Boat prize including a gift card to Retro Boats. Celine Valverde scored the Skyline’s the Limit Yeti filled with tons of summer goodies.

Hear wind sing

Singing Mountain creator Nicholas DeBruyne was on hand to answer questions about his kinetic wind sculpture, and guests enjoyed a preview of the chimes ringing in the breeze. “It’s wonderful to see it in place,” Nicholas said. “The project is really brought to life by the interaction of people enjoying it.” Come back in a few months to hear the chimes at their full performance!

Growing up Easton

We caught up with Easton Park residents Celine and Ruben Lopez, who were visiting the park for the first time with their 14-month-old son Nico in a wagon. They live a few blocks away in Discovery Park, and they were thrilled to see Skyline Park in person! “We’re so excited to be here,” Celine said. “We love Zilker Park for picnics, and we know eventually Nico will love the splash pad and the playground!” They’re also excited to bring Odie, their corgi-dachshund mix, to run on the big lawn.

Welcoming words

The President of Brookfield Texas, Brad Chelton, was on hand to greet guests and help celebrate the park’s completion. “We are excited for Skyline Park to provide Austin’s Eastside community with a vital space for play, events, and programming,” says Chelton. “Easton Park is one of the most amenity-focused communities in Austin, and this park opening continues our commitment to building family-friendly spaces.” We were also honored to have Austin City Council Member Vanessa Fuentes, who represents District 2, in attendance. Councilwoman Fuentes remembered Skyline Park’s groundbreaking ceremony two years earlier, and expressed her excitement over the additional public green space the park brings to the Southeast Austin community she represents.

Built with love and passion

Many thanks to all of the hard work of our partners and sponsors who made this park – and this event – possible. Devyn Inman, a Project Manager at our partner company CPM was at Skyline Park to celebrate the completion. “This park was built with love and passion,” Devyn said, “From the fabrication of the playscapes, which came from Canada, to working with the artist’s team to install Singing Mountain – we had lots of moving parts! We wanted something the entire family could enjoy, from little children to grown ups who are 5’11, with green spaces for dogs. We really wanted to create something on the scale of Zilker or Mueller, but right here in South Austin, and I think we’ve accomplished that!” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves, Devyn. Congratulations to everyone who brought this park from vision to reality! Learn more about the park and all of our amazing partners.
