ATX Pre-Summer Adventures
Before it gets so hot that our faces melt off, let’s get out and enjoy this beautiful town we call home. Late May/early June has some great shows and adventures to keep you laughing, singing, dancing, and even splashing. Here are a few of our picks:
Austin Sketch Fest – May 20 – May 26
Multiple locations Austin, TX
Presented by ColdeTowne Theater, this sketch comedy showcase features best-of-the-best comedy troupes from all over the country. Headlined by Saturday Night Live’s Ego Nwodim and Late Night with Seth Meyer’s Amber Ruffin, this year’s shows are sure to be killer good.
Blues on the Green – May 22
Zilker Park 2100 Barton Springs Rd, Austin, TX 78704
Austin radio favorite KGSR might have changed their name to ACL Radio, but they’re carrying on the Blues on the Green tradition in Zilker Park. Mark your calendars—shows will happen on May 22, June 12, July 17, and August 7, with Jamestown Revival and Sir Woman headlining the kickoff show.
Kerrville Folk Festival – May 23 – June 9
Quiet Valley Ranch 3876 Medina Hwy, Kerrville, TX 78028
Welcome home, hippies and dreamers! This 18-day folk music festival in the Texas Hill Country has something for everyone—assuming you like guitars and banjos. Headliners include Richard Thompson, Eliza Gilkison, Mary Gauthier, Shinyribs, Wood & Wire, Sam Bush, and many, many more. Pack a tent—camping is included in the ticket price, and seasoned Kerrverts know that the best music happens at nightly song circles around the campgrounds.
Hamilton – May 28 – June 16
Bass Concert Hall 2350 Robert Dedman Dr, Austin, TX 78712
Don’t throw away your shot—you’re gonna want to be in the room when this happens. (Sorry—obligatory Hamilton wordplay.) Lin Manuel Miranda’s legendary musical about the life of America’s favorite founding father roars in to Austin this summer. Tickets are spendy on secondary markets, but go if you can—there’s no better way to remind yourself how lucky we are to be alive right now.
Lake Travis Waterloo Adventures – Dates vary; pre-book tickets online
Park at Cypress Creek Marina 13987 FM2769, Leander, TX 78641
With 21 giant inflatables, this waterpark on the water is like nothing we’ve seen. Book tickets ahead and park at Cypress Creek Marina, where you’ll meet your boat ferry to the floating obstacle course. Ninjas and warriors alike will tackle climbing walls, monkey bars, slides, hurdles, balance beam, bridges and more. All participants must be able to swim, and lifejackets are required. While each session only lasts 45 minutes, how much more could you really take?
